Fairfield is a western Sydney suburb in New South Wales, Australia. Fairfield is located 23 kilometers (14 miles) west of Sydney’s central business district, in the Cumberland Plain, and is the administrative hub of the Fairfield City Council (local government area), despite a small portion of it belonging to the Cumberland Council. Fairfield is home to a mix of business and residential complexes, most of which are medium-density structures with a few new high-rise units.

Fairfield is one of Australia’s most multicultural and culturally diverse cities, with more than half of the population born outside of Australia, primarily in non-English speaking countries. The majority of residents in the area speak a language other than English at home, with Arabic and Assyrian Neo-Aramaic being the most frequent. Fairfield is an Assyrian Christian enclave surrounded by Iraqis of diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds. Fairfield also has a sizable Latin American population.

Fairfield comprises a variety of leading street retail, arcades, and more extensive shopping malls, with various activities such as retail, café/restaurant/takeaway foods, and supermarkets (some of which are displayed in a bazaar-style environment), personal services, and business applications. Although most of these business districts are not currently a significant component of Fairfield’s nightlife, wedding festivities dominate the weekend nighttime activity. Fairfield Forum, Neeta City (formerly Fairfield City Central), and Fairfield Chase are three commercial complexes built in the 1980s and early 1990s. The first two are larger and have undergone several renovations in recent years.
