Proudly Serving St Ives

St Ives is a suburb on Sydney’s Upper North Shore in the state of New South Wales, Australia, located 18 kilometers north of the Sydney Central Business District in the Ku-ring-gai Council local government area. To the west and north, St Ives Chase is a separate adjacent region, a defined suburb.

Governor Arthur Phillip and a group of men first explored the St Ives area in 1788, setting up a camp at Bungaroo, near what is now Hunter Avenue. A small-scale timber felling industry sprung up in the area. Due to the large number of troops stationed in the area during WWII, Archbold Road was built as a backup and emergency route to the city. Since 1950, the suburb has grown to include hilltop and valley areas bordering the neighboring Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park to the north, now known as St Ives Chase, and Garigal National Park to the east and southeast.

St Ives was initially slow to develop due to the perceived remoteness of the city. In the late 1890s, St Ives became more inhabited, with market gardeners, small dairy, orchard workers, and other related industries. Since the conclusion of WWII, the suburb has experienced its most rapid growth and a constant increase in the number of families relocating to the area.

In today’s Greater Sydney Region, St Ives is regarded as a relatively safe and prosperous neighborhood. St Ives has a (personal) median weekly income of $932, far above the state average of $664, according to the 2016 Australian Federal Census.
