Proudly Serving Barangaroo

Barangaroo is a small peninsula in Sydney that’s home to many different cultures. It has been designed to be environmentally friendly with many different types of flora and fauna living there. This is considered one of the safest suburbs in the middle of Sydney.

Bangaroo is situated on the northwest end and southern end of Sydney. On the north-western edge and at the southern end. The Aboriginal word ‘Bangaroo’ means “a place to watch the world.” The scenery on this edge of Sydney is spectacular and often visited by locals and tourists.

The Hungry Mile is an area that was used by Indigenous Australians to fish and hunt fishing prior to the British colonization of this magnificent land. They would take their supplies down to Bangaroo, a small bay in Sydney’s harbour where they could fish or hunt animals from its shores while sitting on top of boats made out of bark. 

But it was in The Great Depression that locals were actively looking for work at these docks, so it became known as “The Hungry Mile.” On The Hungry Mile, people would look for jobs and visit from one wharf to the other. 

In modern times, Bangaroo’s redevelopment project is planning to build three precincts: Barangaroo South, Barangaroo Central and the newly named “Barangaroo Reserve.”
